Conference replay – Data and trust: users in the middle of the road

May 31, 2024

On Friday May 31, 2024, the Values and Policies of Personal Information Chair organized its 24th conference, in partnership with SNCF's Living Lab 5G project. This conference presented and discussed the results of the survey carried out with Médiamétrie on French people's perceptions of the use of their personal data.

This major survey, sent out to over 2,000 people, takes place in a complex post-Covid context, marked by the accelerating digitization of our personal and professional lives.

The results are mixed:

  • While the French say they are sensitive to and committed to digital issues, and are generally resistant to sharing their personal data, they say they are willing to share it under certain conditions, notably when the information is anonymized.
  • At the same time, users seem to be losing their bearings, increasingly resigned: respondents want to control the collection and use of their data, but ultimately feel they have little control over the practices of public and private players.
  • The 2019-2023 period will be marked by another phenomenon: the generational effect when it comes to personal data management.

The program was as follows:

  • 3:00 pm: Words of welcome (video at 2mm19) by Céline Morel, Managing Director of the Fondation Mines-Télécom, and Romain Galesne-Fontaine, Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Values and Politics of Personal Information Chair
